Last Link is the Missing Link

  • Those who seriously try to take to consecration are thwarted by a thought that defies consecration.
  • One has to start with the mind, that is, thought.
  • What do we do when the thought defies the effort?
  • Each time mankind came to a halt, it sought fresh knowledge.
  • We do not have that difficulty as Sri Aurobindo has already given us all the knowledge needed. Then we must see what is missing.
  • That which defies consecration can be anything. Here, it is thought.
  • We begin to think what to do next.
  • Thinking will not yield the result when thought defies.
  • That which thinks is mind and ego, both of which are to be overcome. Yes, but how?
  • His explanation is that the Subject and Object are separated by analysis and ego.
  • Object is thought, Subject is Psychic, Analysis is the intervening mental person.
  • Thinking keeps us in the mind.
  • Not thinking will lead to Silence.
  • Consecration cannot be done by the ego or the mind. It can be done by the spiritual element in the thinking, which is its being.
  • Knowing thinking is a bar and trying to wake up in the spiritual element of thinking, leads to a Silence.
  • That Silence will be rich and heavy in the mind.
  • To will from inside that the psychic of thought should consecrate to the psychic of mind, is to overcome the defiance of thought.
  • To break that resistance is possible by instruction.
  • To maintain it is possible only by perseverance.
  • Concentration in the mind will not complete consecration.
  • Consecration needs all-inclusive concentration.
  • The issue here is to overcome the defying thought that defies consecration.
  • We suggested the solution that only the spiritual being in the physical consciousness can do it. It is true.
  • It can be differently stated that the mental concentration needs to be replaced by all-inclusive concentration.
  • All-inclusive concentration in thought is concentration in its thinking, feeling, and sensational parts.
  • Obviously to such a concentration, a part of it, the thinking is subordinate.
  • The moment the mind conceives of this wider idea, there is a calm and silence that is rich.
  • The conception can mature into perception.
  • This perception has greater power and we see our thought that so far defied us is now overpowered.
  • Finally, this perception can ripen into sensation of the body.
  • Now ‘we' are capable of consecrating the thought or if we choose, to surrender it.
  • Still the choice before man is real, if it does not loom large.
  • One who is earnest about consecrating the thought now knows the key, and the three stages by which he can dominate it.
  • For the consecration of vital feelings the process is again the same, but the effort, the required energy and the determination of the will are needed in a far greater measure.
  • For the last step, not only strength and energy are called for, but the alertness needed is absolute.
  • To be able to spot the impulses of subtle thought in the physical consciousness and physical substance when they are seen as movements, the needed alertness is greatest.
  • To install Mother there is the yogic version of this consecration.
