Most Momentous Discovery

  • Sri Aurobindo speaks of a discovery of man which will really culminate in His yogic goal.
  • It is the power of the Spirit which will move Matter.
  • This happens when Matter is discovered as the Delight of existence.
  • Though this is the final goal, one can start working in this spirit even in the beginning.
  • In a language we are already familiar with, it can be called to work as Silent Will.
  • Though silent will is a part of the whole work, it is an important part and a powerful one.
  • Apart from will, there is the knowledge.
  • When all valid knowledge in a work is inner knowledge, will can be Silent and the Spirit can move matter.
  • The activities related to work in an organisation, will be between a hundred and two hundred. One proprietor reported sixty three.
  • If this proprietor wished to implement this value in his company, he should read the full sentence on page 1039 first, and try to get at its inner significance.
  • He may then have to carefully read the entire chapter.
  • The chapter will tell him the following facts.

- He should universalize and transcendentalise himself.

- He must be full, conscious, inward, universal and powerful.

- His aim should be to live, rather to be, not anything else.

- He must transform himself through surrender.

  • All these yogic ideas must be translated into work strategies.
  • The question is - how does a work like packing or writing accounts touch upon power and universalisation and how does spirit move here?
  • Packing is physical work. One does it according to the skill he has. If we look at the skill, it will have gaps in ten places. For instance, each man ties a knot in his own way. Not all men tie the knot strongly. If it is strong, it may have a longer cord or the knot itself may be clumsy.
  • These things can be removed by improving the skill. That is good.
  • Instead, if he looks into himself, and his own state of mind which is an attitude, all these defects will surface and disappear in a moment of sincerity and in the next minute the knot will reveal the newly rising awareness.
  • For every other aspect mentioned above, one look inside will set them right at once, temporarily. For their permanent removal, the inward look must be the only look.
  • Looking inside, the heart will be half immersed in the work. The moment we wish it to be a full immersion, it will be full. The work will shoot up in quality, even if it is packing. As soon as one is full inside, he will see the space of ten feet radius around him getting charged and work moving briskly. The packing will be finished much earlier and far more perfectly.
  • It will be noticeable that the three or four people doing packing around will be doing the very thing you wished to tell them to do. Silent Will.
  • If things are delayed or are imperfect, it is certain that the knowledge required for the work will be imperfect. Look inside at the knowledge. All the gaps will be seen. Give no outer instructions. Try to fill the gaps in the inner knowledge. Knowledge of packing will rise inwardly and fill the gaps, all in a trice.
  • Let his aim be to be, not to do. To be in packing is to be quiet and do the work patiently. All of a sudden the atmosphere will elevate itself, things will fall into place as if there is an invisible hand - it will be visible to the subtle vision - and proceed correctly at an inconceivable speed.
  • What is set right by the atmosphere must be made all right permanently by external work.
  • Note that this external work is an expression of inner work.
  • Repeat this approach in all the sixty three functions directly by your own doing, wherever you can, or indirectly by your presence and guidance. It will move Matter.
