Knowing the truth and speaking the truth

Notes:

Truth is the objective expression of Spirit, Reality, the Divine. To seek to know the Truth we must first know that we live in the consciousness of Ignorance and we can only hope to know Truth by coming out of that Ignorance. As long as we identified with Ego or are slaves to our lower nature, we are in the Ignorance and cannot know the Truth. To know we are ignorant and our instruments are ignorant is the first step toward Truth. To aspire for Truth and sincerely seek to become true is to make spiritual progress. Truth is more about motive than fact. What we call facts are physical appearances not truths. Often the appearances are opposite of the truth. Truth is the intention to live and express Divine values -- goodness, self-giving, purity, sincerity -- rather than egoistic values of selfishness. Elizabeth Bennet saw a truth about herself when she suddenly realized that her behavior had been absurd. Darcy realized some truth when he considered the validity of Elizabeth's point of view. Both illustrate the process of reversal of consciousness., Taking the other person's point of view and discovering the correspondence between outer events and what we are inside are two powerful means for discovering truths about ourself and the world. Life is a Roseta Stone that helps us discover self-knowledge by first understanding what we see in other people and then applying it to ourselves.
