Sprirtuality & Prosperity

Spirituality and Prosperity - 1

  • Spirituality is ALL prosperity as the egg is full of meat. Prosperity in life is Spirituality.
  • There was a time in our families when the educated boy went in for employment and the uneducated for business, as if education is a bar to business. This is no longer true. The truth is, no business can be run without education. Education is an endowment of business.
  • If education is an endowment, is not spirituality a greater endowment for business?
  • Herman Hesse's short novel Siddhartha is about a sannyasi returning to life to marry his courtesan and doing business expresses this truth very well. His business prospers just by his spiritual equipment.
  • Universities stifle education. This is not a known idea. Equally so, business and prosperity are furthered by spirituality.
  • Spirituality is mental light, vital energy and physical steadiness and how can it not be prosperous?
  • Like many other false prejudices, when spirituality is mistaken for worship, and pious people are considered unfit for dynamic life, there is a superstition.
  • What is spirituality in life? Health, energy, dynamism, clear thinking, organised action, fresh ideas, daring initiative and adventurous availing of opportunities are spiritual expressions none of which the ordinary man is capable of. How can those qualities not raise a man sky high?
  • Look at a dozen men successful in life. Ask what made them successful. People see these men are imperious, deceitful, crafty, cunning, currying favour. Ask anyone close to them. The answer will be, "The man works to death. He will never go back on his word", "His employees are devoted to him," "He has a team that will die for him," "Any officer will do anything for him", etc. They are energy, honesty, loyalty leadership, organisation, attention to people. What are they if they are not spiritual?
  • Our national life has no integrity, self-respect, individuality, work ethic, honour of the word given, character and therefore our men who are successful by the spiritual values do not know them to be spiritual but they too see the falsity around. The truth is, their success is ONLY due to the spiritual qualities they have.
  • If national commercial organisations are rated and the available spiritual qualities in them are rated too, there will be a fair correspondence.
  • Bata revived his organisation after the war. He applied the principle of open communication of financials, maximum trust and autonomy for managers, systematic organisation. He had the courage to rise to the challenge of growing in a depressed economy. Any man who wants to fully spiritualise his organisation can multiply it or can give up his whole company and revive it at a higher level based on greater truths than now.
  • All nations at the top of the list of nations are endowed with spiritual qualities. Those who are poor are poor in spiritual traits.
  • A businessman or a householder can make an experiment in one of his factories or one department of his factory or in one walk of his life. Just for thirty days let him strictly follow all the spiritual qualities in that one sector. There will be a BOOM.
  • As the African who sold his land to go after the South American gold found a diamond mine in his own lands, India is going after the USA. USA can give twenty times salary. India can give 200 times one's wealth if she is appealed to.
  • Actually the Brahmins are driven to the US by adversity. Assuming there is no communal GO all the Brahmins now in the US would be lawyers and doctors or clerks in the government departments.
  • Instead of seeking prosperity through adversity, I ask them to open their eyes.
  • Even commercially, the opportunities in India are greater than outside.
  • Sir S. Radhakrishnan, the Mudaliar brothers, Sir CP Ramasamy and all those great men of 1950 if born in England or USA, no one would have taken note of them as there were hundreds like them. As talents were in dearth here, they rose in life. It is just now true about market, price, labour, technology, degree, etc. in India.
  • How many can appreciate that for software engineers, India offers greater opportunities than USA if they become entrepreneurs?
  • Spirituality is like technology. Technology does not take root without infrastructure. Spirituality needs psychological infrastructure. The West has it on the surface life. Below there is no light. India has light below, but on the surface they do not have the psychological infrastructure prosperity needs.
  • In 1947 T. Govindarajan who was head and shoulders above P.C. Alexander, his colleague, refused to appear for IAS which PC Alexander appeared for. Govindarajan did not know the potential he had. Alexander rose to be Governor, Govindarajan retired as a college professor. Indians are like that.
  • Any professional, persons in any age group, men, women, etc. have a vast potential to multiply their health, wealth, status, PROSPERITY business, family, happiness etc., if they want to be spiritual.
  • When a man lies to a friend in business, he may get that one thing done, but he loses the man. When he is truthful, he is sure to gain that man. Man gained is greater than work falsely accomplished.
  • Loyalty wins you most of the men you deal with. Is it not an asset? Equal to great investment.
  • This truth is not to be preached, but lived for others to emulate.
  • Cleanliness is now being better appreciated and punctuality is being appreciated a little more now.
  • Questions before the people are: "The rogue succeeds." The rogue will not succeed forever. Look at three or four generations in any country. The scoundrels have NOT been continuously successful.
  • Success in the long run is not for the dishonest.

Spirituality and Prosperity -- 2

  • Man becomes prosperous through family and friends, an organisation, by influential men, by money, by what is called LUCK that is by LIFE favouring him.
  • Man tries to get the help of these things by the values of life of which he is a part.
  • The deepest value of life as we live is strength, expressed in violence. Man liberally uses it in two ways 1) having a private army and 2) enlisting police help paying them.
  • Often influence of caste, or direct payment of money or other gratifications or compromise in values as in underhand dealings known as tricks, etc. serve this purpose. But as the society changes, these become difficult and finally boomerang. It is not open to one, if he is working away from his native soil. One phenomenon is visible here.
  • If one resorts to tricks, as and when things change, with the passing of time, greater tricks are to be used. A time comes when no tricks are of any avail.
  • If the man is exhausting his resources of tricks, ONE palpable movement will be there. LIFE will go against him, law will go against him, circumstances will undermine him. It is in such circumstances that a small unfortunate event undermines a great organisation's great work.
  • If a man is saved in such dire circumstances, everyone attributes it to LUCK and in the same breath says, "It is because of some good he has done or is doing."
  • All these instruments are abundantly available through spirituality and its value of work, energy, ideas, values, faith, etc.
  • Almost all entrepreneurs will have a guru or an astrologer to whom they resort to in critical circumstances. They mightily serve up to a point. Beyond that, they give up.
  • Values of spirituality are rarely followed by men in business. If they do try, they are difficult to follow. But when followed successfully, the rewards are rich. They become vastly successful until they come to knock their heads against a karma where even these values fail him.
  • People in business know the value of a reliable friend or a financier, an officer, a politician. When he is personally reliable, there is no asset to equal him.
  • Ordinarily such support is secured by money. In critical times, that value vanishes. Human values survive.
  • One who enjoyed such support by money may fail or surely fail in critical times, but he who secured such support based on honesty, loyalty - with or without money - will always enjoy such support. In critical times, such supports will voluntarily issue, in greater measure. Here lies the secret.
  • Secure human help by values, it lasts and has the capacity to grow.
  • The support of organisation, law, society and finally LIFE is safely secured and one discovers it grows.
  • Organisational support is abundant money, support of law makes one invincible, support of society brings a very respectable STATUS and support of LIFE is LUCK in all that we do.
  • The basis for this approach is Truth and NOT having faith in the opposites, particularly tricks or money.
  • The Westerner is truthful in all these areas and therefore he is successful. Such truth is inconceivable in India.
  • Self-reliance & Self-respect -- Rev. Josiah Crawley's unwillingness to receive help (depicted in one of Anthony Trollope's novels) is unheard of here.
  • The Westerner is truthful in life, which is the life on the surface. The West has not produced Mahatma Gandhiji, or Vinobha who persuaded dacoits to surrender to the police, nor can it produce a saint.
  • When the Indian has the truthfulness of the Westerner, he will see his success on the surface is continued in the depth. Then it will be an eternal BOOM. This is a secret India needs to know.
  • Great occasions, decisive in one's life often depend upon absence of rain on the day of the function or a hartal etc., which invariably spoils and ruins the rich man if he is known to be a rogue. An honest man is never let down by life, but it is precarious. Those who anchor themselves in inner values are not only not steadily supported by wrong movements but moments turn into their opposite.
  • There are men who become adepts in management, by managing money. It is enormously rewarding and is unfailing. When life deserts them, they often see it is a crash.
  • Indians, if they are pious and worship a God which is not a vital spirit, have seen the power of the photo of their gods.
  • No man who is honest in his intention need suffer loss or escape infinite prosperity, if only he is a diligent worker who seeks the support of people, organisation, and LIFE by spiritual values.
  • Ardently followed spiritual values can make one rich overnight in an unbelievably great measure.
  • The Indian commercial atmosphere now offers all possible support for such an effort.

Spirituality and Prosperity - 3

  • Greater health, brighter mind, higher energy, abundance of money, greater skill, etc. in one renders him better than others in health, thought, work, life and accomplishment.
  • Spirit enhances health, mind, energy, money earning capacity, skill formation, etc. vastly.
  • Naturally spirituality raises prosperity level vastly.
  • We have it. All that we should do is to bring it into play.
  • To do all our present work with greater attention and,

- Absence of egoism

- Selflessly Is to do it spiritually.

  • For example, we know attention to people will increase its efficiency.

- It does not merely increase the skill. It makes the negative into positive, i.e. the increase in efficiency is ten fold.

- Attention itself is effective.

- Make it pleasant. It goes a long way.

- Make the attention in such a way that you recognise the skill he already knows. People will be thrilled.

- Eye contact is attention par excellence.

- In giving attention, enjoy the other person, not your own attention.

- Non-stop attention to a person for a whole day, even for one hour, wins him forever.

- Attention to things and people important for him gives a greater dimension.

- Attention to all people in a work, all work (parts of work), all instruments, all procedures and all movements will raise it to 100 or 200 fold. Let him make an experiment in the theatre for one full day and he will see for himself.

- Suppose such an experiment is made and he observes soft speech, etc., he will witness a minor miracle.

Man is selfish and gives attention to himself. Let him become selfless, pay total attention to all work and maintain it. This way he will move from the lowest to highest.
