Spiritual Origins of Values

January 8, 2008

Language finds its origin in life, in human intercourse. Values originate in the Spirit. Values acquire linguistic names. Such a study is the province of the linguist, but the same study can enrich the scholar who works in the field of literature. There are academic pursuits. A management consultant who discovers the spiritual origin of values will find that he suddenly moves from mom and pop companies to small nationwide presences. One who thus moves for other reasons will be able to see his own attitudes in consultancy have acquired an emphasis on values. The ideas of consultancy are acquired by experience, reading and thinking. Here is another way to do it, to do it more richly and powerfully.

Consultants offer new skills. A theoretical knowledge of what a skill is, how it is constituted, will make the work of the consultant more effective, even if he does not communicate his theoretical knowledge to the trainee. Skill is energy organised. Physical energy organises itself as physical skills. The organisation needs knowledge. Often it is physical knowledge or the knowledge of the physical mind. Should mental knowledge be organised as physical skills, it must first be organised as mental skills. Either way, skill is organised energy. Organisation is preceded by innumerable repetitions that generate the knowledge needed and impart the strength of organisation. One needs to understand capacity, ability, talent, organisation, system, value, communication, instruction and every other thing from the first principles. It is a long endeavour but a rewarding one. My intention here is to illustrate such a phenomenon not from below, but from above. The work will be complete only when it is done both from below and above and taking into consideration all the possible combinations. Thus it will cover every human trait known to us. It will be an encyclopedic effort. Let me deal with the issue from above to an extent.

Sachchidananda splits into:

Unity, Truth, Knowledge, Power, Beauty, Love and Joy.

Spirit is known to have twelve aspects:

Infinity, Eternity, Silence, Peace, Truth, Goodness, Light, Power, Beauty, Joy, Love, Unity.

Their combinations produce other values:

          Truth and Knowledge is Goodness.

          Truth and Love is Sweetness.

          Truth and Power is Strength.

          Truth and Beauty is Perfection.

          Truth and Joy is Rapture.

Incidentally, their opposites in combination produce all evils, such as:

 Falsehood and knowledge is Perversity.

It is a great mental exercise for a consultant to sift each human trait into its primary components. Thus:

          Instruction is information and order.

Such an effort will give a linguistic mastery over the field of action. The linguistic clarity, if taken to the practical field till we see the physical circumstances that are the origin of a word or value, gives a practical mastery of concepts in execution.  The word ‘negotiate' has its partial origins in the movement of vehicles which discover a smooth route. That knowledge gives a clarity of use. It enables precision of action. A consultant becomes effective when his instructions are fully implemented. Usually a small part of it alone receives that favour. His linguistic and practical clarity will help raise the present 10% implementation of his instructions to 80% as his own clarity has the power of penetration of the minds of the hearer, even the client as a corporate entity. Should he succeed in communicating his own twofold clarity to the individual listeners or the client as a corporate body as a whole, his instructions will be fully implemented.
