Personal effort vs surrender

Date:

Notes:

At what point in the sadhana do we outgrow the need for action? Life is action and we act as long as we are alive. What we can eventually outgrow is the need for personal effort, meaning effort of the egoistic will of the surface being subordinated and slave to the lower nature. Spiritual progress is to replace our subconscious subordination to prakriti with conscious self-surrender to our higher nature, Shakti, so that the Divine can act in and through us. Action remains, egoistic initiative is outgrown. Sri Aurobindo reminds us not the confuse inertia and inaction with true surrender which an action of the highest level of our being that allows Mother to act in and through us.
