Understanding extreme misfortune and tragic events

Religion, history and science do not provide any basis for a true understanding of misfortune, suffering, falsehood, wrong, evil and death. Science tells us they are by chance. Religion tells us it is because people have sinned. History baffles and confuses and sheds no light. Sri Aurobindo provides an intellectual understanding In Life Divine which can serve as the basis for Faith. But he also says that intellectual understanding is not true knowledge and that knowledge can be attained only by spiritual and psychological experience. Faith is the essential power that can lead us from understanding to spiritual experience of truth. That psychological experience must necessarily be personal and begin with ourselves. Synthesis of Yoga leads us on the path to transform our whole Life into Yoga, a yoga that enables our consciousness, faith, aspiration, knowledge to keep growing and revealing the deepest and highest spiritual and supramental truths to our own experience. Therefore Karmayogi insists we start from where we are and apply the basic principles of Mother's life -- inner-outer correspondences, calling, constant remembrance, consecration, non-reaction, equality, sincerity, faith, gratitude, service, surrender, etc. until the spiritual mystery of life begins to reveal itself in our own lives through the smallest inconsequential happenings. Once we experience the truth for ourselves, we can begin to perceive it in the wider world around us. Then we discover for ourselves the truth that the whole world is Delight (Ananda), that the Divine is acting at every moment through supramental knowledge, that everything happens for our progress, there is no punishment in nature, every difficulty is an opportunities, our failures are even more precious means of progress than our successes, that NOTHING is impossible for the Divine Mother through Her Grace and we have only to open to Her completely and sincerely and fall Her with faith to invoke Her descent in our lives.
