Personality of Inanimate Objects

  • Personality is a product of nature, says Sri Aurobindo.
  • As manners belong to the surface and are mainly social, behaviour is still of the surface of man's psychological consciousness.
  • Behaviour is the truth of manners, if they have any.
  • Character is of the very substance of the individual where the individual's consciousness is organised as inflexible character.
  • Nature from which character, behaviour and manners issue is a wider force of man which is not exhausted by the formation of character.
  • Nature gives the human energy to man where the biological energy is given the direction of the human.
  • Character thus acquires a uniqueness in every individual.
  • The formation of character still leaves plenty of human energy unorganised as fixed, rigid and inflexible character.
  • Character is the repository of capacity.
  • There are original situations such as Arjuna faced on the battlefield or England found herself in, in 1940. Every person faces them often in his life and then tries to fall back on what he knows, just as Nehru called on Mountbatten to solve the refugee crisis in 1947 after India became independent. All originality of love, courage, capacity and creativity in arts and letters arises from personality.
  • The original resourcefulness of man lying outside his formed character is human personality. This is the terrain where greatness is born and acts.
  • The uniqueness of the thumbprint, and the lines of the leaves are well known. The universal Individuality is unique. It comprehensively embraces existence in the universe.
  • And every movement is thus entitled to uniqueness.
  • We do not write the same word twice with the same strokes.
  • Each time the football is kicked, it is kicked differently.
  • Overmind carrying each vibration to its very last possibility aims at uniqueness and achieves it.
  • The vision of the marvel reveals this phenomenon in all its details.
  • Man, rising along the grades of the spiritual mind's range reaches the Overmind and there sees this phenomenon of uniqueness. At that point he is ready to cross over to the Supermind.
  • Manners are for the developed social being, fully conscious of the importance of the society and his need to put up courteous manners.
  • The psychologically formed social individual finds the need for truth in manners and thus acquires behaviour. Behaviour carries the social truth, but not the truth of the person below.
  • Character falls into a pattern and reflects human character in general and individual character in particular. Each act carries it further to stamp it with the character of acts and further each individual act.
  • This article confines itself to the character of inanimate objects and acts which includes the inanimate substance in animate objects.
  • Buildings or playgrounds carrying the power of atmosphere of their past acts is known as rasi in India. A knife or a pair of scissors long used in a work works better. This is the experience of skilled workers. The sentimental value attached to Milton's table, or Victoria's pen arises from this fact.
  • Even the starting hour in Parliament has its own personality and it is generally recognised in most cultures and honoured in many.
  • This personality is as alive to the conspicuous observer as the human personality and can be drawn upon to raise efficiency.
  • As the proprietor draws upon the efficiency of the manager or a capable salesperson, the organisation is free to draw upon the personality of its products, places, time schedules and every conceivable thing.
  • As a tool of work efficiency, it can raise the sales of a store selling at 30,000 dollars a day to a few millions.
  • As a point of study, this observation can expand one's knowledge to the very infinitesimal and make him a prodigy in work.
  • Spiritually, the ability to know this phenomenon widens his spiritual personality.
  • Thinking back about what happened to us will reveal the truth of this.
  • Objects receive attention, even affection, and are capable of more fully responding than man, as they are not inhibited by preferences.
  • Value implementation approaches physical objects, human voice, figures, events in a workshop, registers, systems, time, place, relationships, customers, activities so as to make them Respond in full.
  • Divine Love is incapable of expecting any return as it relates to persons and objects at their infinitesimal level opening the infinite love in himself at the same minute level. The flow being infinite, it loses direction, as here giving is taking. Direction is a limitation of the finite. Infinite flow overcomes that limitation.
  • Pleasure, success and satisfaction are of one order. Joy, affection and fulfillment are of another order. Love is an order unto itself.
  • Complete attention makes the inanimate animate by letting the Spirit in it emerge on the surface.
  • Hence, it is called the evolution of Spirit.
  • He who appreciates the personality of objects crosses into the Being of the Becoming, first giving up the human personality that Nature - the Becoming - endowed him with.
